PC Solutions
In recent years the PC has acquired the power to run high quality video communications. Alere has worked with a number of customers to achieve a set of precise requirements from a PC video platform. This has revolved around the needs of home use, and communication over broadband lines. We have taken a technology agnostic approach to the software, infrastructure and peripherals to meet these requirements.
Software
The software used in a system is based on the application. Connecting into a telemedicine environment requires the use of industry standards, and facilities such as encryption and the ability to connect using ISDN and IP are essential.
One such solution is Vcon VPoint HD. A number of different versions exist depending on the requirement enabling options such as high definition video, local and remote camera control, dual stream video that are more commonly found on Enterprise videoconferencing systems. VCon also offers a range of infrastructure solutions. Alere engineers are VCON certified.
PC Selection
A typical desktop PC is not ideal for a video application. PCs are chosen according to a number of criteria, including processor power, audio support, screen size, touchscreen control, inbuilt cameras, security, silent operation, inbuilt WiFi support, operating system, and a minimum of wired peripheral devices.
