Camera Systems
The camera selection for a telemedicine system is possibly the most important element. Where the main Pan, Tilt, Zoom camera offers good quality, they are often fixed in position, they can be delicate, with a number of connecting wires and they are not suitable for use as a handheld device.
Specialist Cameras
The main functions of specialist cameras are:
Ability to focus at close range
A source of even light
Colour calibration
Magnification
Ability to reach target location
Other features such as resolution support, 3 sensors, and top brand lenses can further improve the images, but they don't define the camera's suitability for purpose.
General Examination Cameras
For a rapid view of a target location a more general handheld camera may be used. Typically cameras of this type feature power zoom and autofocus, as well as the ability to freeze the image.
