Telemedicine is the technology that brings remote specialist support to the point of care. Conventionally this has been live video consultations, however the use of diagnostic information in telemedicine consultations, such as ENT scopes, dermascopes, opthalmoscopes endoscopes, CT scans, X-Ray films, MRI scans, pressure mats and many others is now included. The information is either live through the telemdicine system, or retrieved through the electronic patient record system
Telemedicine Components
Video Communication SystemThis provides the video call to enable the consultation to take place. Size, cost, quality, ease of use can vary enormously.
Camera System
The camera on a standard video conferencing system is of a high quality but often cannot be moved and does not provide light or magnification. For this an external camera system with a light source and a range of different lenses and attachments is used.
