Telehealth is a combination of technology and service that enables people with medical conditions to live safely in their home environment. By monitoring a patient's vital signs- for example blood pressure, or blood glucose level- a clinician can view and respond with appropriate action in a timely way. This can lead to earlier treatment, prevention of admission to hospital, and a better quality of life.
Telehealth Components
Medical Peripheral DevicesThese devices are used to measure vital signs such as blood pressure, blood glucose, weight, SPO2 etc.
Telehealth Home Monitor
This is used to collect readings from the medical peripheral devices and transmit them to the monitoring centre. It is also used to remind the user to take readings and to ask the user questions about how they are feeling.
Monitoring Software
The monitoring software performs several functions. It alerts monitoring staff of alerts (e.g. high or low vital signs readings), missing readings and transmission problems. It also allows the nurses to view recent trends, and record their response to events. The software can also provide reporting to the patient's specialist and to trust staff.
